Jumped ship to American Family from Allstate. In Nevada Allstate sucks ass.

They jumped my rate up $60 a month and could offer no explanation. I have been with them for 10 years. I also don't agree with rates based on credit worthiness. Been a flawless driver for 17 years and a certified racing instructor, but because I am late on a credit card payment I pay more. F that!

I have USAA in Germany and Geico (18+ years) in Hawaii. Geico isn't "represented" in Europe. Both seem to be pretty fair with their premiums. Geico has a provided me with a great business rate with a huge amount of liability on the island. We drive about 32K a year there with our courier service.

Another way to redesign your policy — and save money in the process — is to ask for a higher deductible. The deductible is the amount of money you have to pay before your insurance company begins paying the rest. In other words, you pay for the little dings and bumps and let your insurance company pay for the heavy hits.
For example, a common deductible amount is $500. This means if an accident you're in causes $1,500 worth of damage, you pay $500 and the insurance company pays $1,000. You could, however, set your deductible to $1,000. This still covers you against heavy losses, but it may decrease your monthly premium by as much as 30 percent.
As a final note, if you are being strangled by high insurance costs, keep this in mind when you go car shopping next time. State Farm on all our vehicles. They have been very helpful and have handled our few claims expeditiously, and with follow-up. I think our combined monthly premium for our four cars is in the $200 range, and that amount includes a personal articles policy and an umbrella policy on our home.
You certainly have Cheap petrol in the USA, compared to Australia, but You certainly make up for it with your sky-high insurance premiums. Insurance for my high performance Ford Falcon GT (400+hp) is only $1400/year (agreed Value $65k), Insurance for my '93 Disco (Agreed value $11k) is $500/year. I suppose the high cost of fuel here makes up for it though, Regards Frank.rmuller said:
