I have a 1984, Landrover, 109, Series 3, Factory Rover V8, 3.5 litre. Does anyone know if a later model Defenders 5 speed gear box will bolt straight on it with out to many complications ? ive been told that possibly a 5 speed Celica gear box might. Does anyone know about that ? and does anyone have any experience with having a quick shifter auto in one ?

Firstly, the gearbox and transfer case are one unit in your vehicle, so you would have to replace both.
The transmission tunnel you have will not fit a factory 5 speed or later transfer case. So you would have to change over that as well. It is not a big deal to change the transmission tunnel as they are just screwed in, but you have to remove seats, etc to get to it. Also the prop shafts will be different lengths to what is required for a later transfer case.
