On my 2000 Disco ES v8, I noticed that oil / brake fluid is leaking from the rear axle between the brake disk, and the dust cover / shield behind it. Anybody have any ideas about this? Mr Van.
Are you sure it's not diff fluid? It's common for the seals to leak and wet the inside of the tires. Most common reason for seal failure is clogged breather hose.
It it's brake fluid then check your brake hose (hard hose) and piston seals (you need to remove the caliper to see the seals).
Thanks for your response. Is there fluid inside the entire length of the rear axle, or just inside the differential housing? You're right about the wheel, though, it's caked with dirt on the inside of the rim. Mr. Van
