Well never owned a Land Rover and the one I am going to look at is a 1970 RHD diesel 88 with 62k miles on it.
I live in NJ and know the speed of LR is not great but was told it will do 50 mph
and know I can not do freeways with it here in NJ.
But would like to do the Jersey Pines and some local driving with it.
Any one here own a, or have owned LR iiA with Diesel and am I choosing the wrong one. Is a gas Land Rover any more powerful for my area of driving?
I would like to have a good experience with my first LR and not just purchase first one I see and make bad choice.
So would like to hear from experienced Land rover Owners.
Thanks Joe

The 2.5L normally aspirated diesel engine is very low on power. I recall travelling about 100 miles in a 2.5L IIa petrol following the diesel version of the same IIa. The diesel was hopeless on the hills and slow to accellerate on the flat. Most people sticking with this model and looking for more power would fit a 200tdi engine. The 2.5L petrol is not brilliant but it's far easier to live with.
