In inspecting (as I wait for the heads to come back from the machine shop) I found that one of my front-facing bell housing-to-sump (driver side) bolt is just plain loose. ?!?!?

It jiggles and I can almost turn it by hand.

I tried to torque it tight but it just spins.

1. Any idea where to get another bolt?

2. Why would it just spin/turn?

I did not try to pull it out as I didn't want to open a can of worms (not today, anyway).

Any input is (as always) greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a simple stripped thread, it is a very common bolt and thread pitch ( 3/8 nc) into aluminum, a thread repair kit / thread insert would likely be the best repair but you will likely need to pull the pan

Bell-housing to sump? I wouldn't be too concerned about it as it doesn't serve a major structural purpose. For the first 30 years of production of this engine by Land Rover, that bolt wasn't there.
