I was putting the center console back together this weekend and thought I'd just shift into Low Range to get the leather right on the shifter handle.
Strangely I can't get it to shift.

If anyone has a suggestion let me know. I have had the Rangie in low range before and have never had trouble before now getting it there.

RR recommends shifting transfer gear lever while moving 5 mph. Gears need to align.

Read manual for stationary shift. Mine says apply foot AND hand brakes, shift transmission into Neutral, select transfer ratio. Don't force. If unsuccessful then; with both brakes applied, try with engine running and shift into Drive then Neutral again.

Audible warning will be heard when ignition is on and transfer box in neutral.

There is a solenoid mounted on the shifter that keeps you from shifting the transfer case unless the transmission is in nuetral. Mine went bad on my 93 so I just took it out. I think you can remove it from the top after dismantiling the console.

Thanks for the tips. I've been busy getting the house packed and haven't gotten to pursue this problem more.

I'll post after I figure out what is going on.
