Hi All -

I've searched this site and Disco3.co.ok and haven't found a similar problem.

I need troubleshooting help.

My lower door, not the upper as most, is having issues. I pulled the switch and checked it with a multi-meter and it's in perfect condition.

I grounded the two leads that connect to the switch, and still no actuator engagement.

I searched the owner's manual for an indication for a fuse for the lower tail door and found nothing.

Anybody else experience this and come up with the solution? The wife is getting perturbed and I don't want to leave it at the local Stealership.

HELP?!!

Thanks,
TC

It's a two part system. At 89K or so my actuator failed then a month later another part. I had the whole system replaced. It was under an extended warrantee then. It seems that they all fail on LR3's or LR4 after 80K or so. The RRS tail gate system seems not fail of what I heard.

Are referring to the upper tailgate? I've already replaced those parts as a preventative measure. I'm speaking of the lower taildoor, just to be sure we're talking about the same one.

Still looking for help...

BUMP

Anybody know the best way to trace the wiring harness from the tailgate? I have a wiring schematic, but I don't have a wiring harness routing diagram and don't want to just start pulling the interior out.

Thanks

I have the same issue. My LOWER tailgate will not open and the switch and actuators seem good. Either a wiring, ground, or CJB problem. Did anyone figure this out?
Thanks.
See DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Lower Tailgate - Lower Tail Door Won't Actuate - Wiring???

There was a continuity break in the wire from my switch to the CJB; somewhere in the harness. I didn't locate the actual break to splice it since it was buried with 100,000 other wires.

Once I found the right wire, it was easy to trace down. I grounded the wire that led to the CJB, and "click", the lower tailgate opened. Checked continuity to the switch and nothing. I made another cut and it was good back to the switch, so I spliced another piece of wire in between the two good lengths and, 'viola'!

Hope that helps.

TopCat, Thanks for the input. I now know that the black wire (ground) from the switch is good. The black/slate wire is good from the tailgate to just inside behind the 3rd row. This harness runs to the driver side (left) of the LR3. There is lots of plastic and carpet to remove to trace the wire like you said.

The question is...where is connector C0586L on the CJB? I found a wire with similar colors but seems to have a different gauge going into a connector on the bottom of the CJB. I would like to make sure this is the wire before I mess with it.

And, yes, running a separate new wire is the way to go. But first I have to find it near the CJB.

Thanks again.

Well, connector C0586 is behind the CJB. I did not want to pull that out and I could not find the black/slate wire near the CJB. However, I found it just behind the front passenger seat, near the B-pillar, turning towards the driver side. This wire does run behind the front seats and to the driver side where it then goes to the back.

The wire break is between the B-pillar by the back of the passenger seat and where it goes through the lower tailgate sill.

I ran a wire on the passenger side, from the known good point on the passenger side all the way to the lower tailgate sill before it goes through the feed-through.

The lower tailgate actuators work again!

Thanks all!
