Hello all,

I have been a long time reader of this forum, and have really enjoyed learning from your experiences. :drink1: This is my first post.

I am a new owner of a 95 LWB, with 88K. I absolutely love it. It has been in Texas since new, and shows no signs of rust.

I am moving to New York, and will be storing it in a private, unheated garage.

I don't have any experience with Rovers, and have heard so much about problems with rust. Should I get a rust preventative undercoating like Zbart or Waxolin?? (I heard someone say that Zbart can actually accellerate rust formation if the application is not done exactly right.)

I will only be driving the car approximately once a month, and may be able to avoid driving it right after the roads are salted. However, I understand that the salt dust lingers on the roads for some time.

My plan is this. After I drive the car, I could stop at a self serve car wash and attempt to hose down the underside before garaging it again.

What do you think? Do I need an undercoating? If so, what do you reccomend?

Will garaging it right after a wash present any issues I don't know about?

Thank you for your responses and help,

Rich

In Minnesota

Rich,
I live in Minnesota and you know how it is here with snow. They basically pickle the road with salt.
Anyway, I bought 95 RR LWB w/67k miles on it and it has absolutely no rust spot on it. Secret? Previous owner (one owner car)washed the car underbody every time they pull into their condo garage. They have built in underbody sprayer at the entrance of garage(high buck condo). Wash underbody as much as you wax your car in summer. Also, rust proofing is a good idea but if you see a sign of rust on your car, it is worse than not getting one when you coat over the rust with this rust proofing stuff.
Good luck!

Parafin based undercoating/ sealant, such as Waxoil or Rusty Jones (are they still around?) is way better than Ziebart, which locks in as much moisture in as it keeps out. Unheated cement residential garages, that were poured without a moisture barrier are great for rusting out a car. However if it is a multi-storey parking garage, as in the city, with plenty of air movement , you will be OK. If that's the case, wash the undercarriage anytime you drive in salty conditions. Anyway you cut it, Range Rovers have so many places to trap moisture, and the salt with it.

Thank you all for your input. I think I will try the Waxoyl service at Robisons.

Has anyone used waxoyl? What do you think?

What about Robison's?. It sounds like they do a very thorough prep and application.

Many thanks,

Rich
