Just got a new MSD 2 coil, before I drop it in.....Anyone know if a ballast resistor is needed, with this coil? Or can it go straight in?
1996 V8 3.9

It will hook straight into the existing wiring, just switch the connectors and go.

Well, dropped it in, fired it up and ran all ok.
Put the tools away and started it up again, this time it ran very rough and slowly died. Refused to start anymore.

Red battery warning light is on.

I 've got battery voltage between positive battery terminal and negative on the coil, workshop manual says should be zero with ignition off.
With ignition on its zero, suspect I've fired the amplifer?
Any ideas ?

I fitted the MSD high vibration coil to my 94 3.9, and the guy said that it needed a ballast resistor, don't know why, I stick to mechanicals mostly, let someone else deal with the electricals. Check on the MSD web site for more info, they also say you need one. Good luck.

The ballast resistor is part of the stock wiring, or at least it should be. I've never seen a stock ignition that didn't have a ballast resistor.
