Hi guys whats up!

Just got into the forums coz I just had this baby two weeks ago.

2002 Discovery Series II SE

I took this baby for some off-roading on Ocotillo Wells

my first stunt and I hit the brake a bit late so I had a hard drop by the right rear bumper. tweaked the bumper and the lights popped out. hehehe not bad for my first time.

this baby's ability amazed me. the picture shows when I was backing up when the front bumber kinda stuck with the hill in front of me. traction control rocks.

Thanks guys

I actually pretty new with this offroading thing and after reading some threads I couldn't understand some terms ni offroading.

I pretty sure can understand what RoverX mean adding 2" with spacers or new shocks.

but some like recovery points and MT's are pretty difficult to me.

I've had enough toying with sedans like my previous project:

Merc C240 '02

I put the Xenon headlights replacing the frosty kinda looking one and 18" Brabus Monoblock VI for the shoes

wanna get to Disco more now and trying to find some clubs here in San Diego

Hey, welcome to the forums. Nice disco and mercedes :buttrock:

Check out these sites for more information and land rover pictures;

www.expeditionexchange.com
www.discoweb.org

you will learn a lot over time, I know I did.

To start you out; recovery points are points on your vehicle where it is safe to attach a winch, tow strap, or recovery strap without damaging the vehicle. These points are usually attached to the frame of the vehicle either directly or indirectly (ie. though a bumper that is bolted to the frame).

MT is the abb. for Mud Terrain tires. MT tires have a specific lug (google it "MT lug") design that goes in sets of three (each with a different shape and size) around the tire. These provide excellent traction on multiple off-road terrains; ie. mud, soft sand, snow, etc. The most common companies for tires are probably BFGoodrich for thier MT's and AT (all terrain) off-road tires, and Interco, for thier truxus, IROK, and Super Swamper tires. Many can argue the quality and effectiveness of each tire/brand; you will have to just decide for yourself :)

Soon enough things like these will become familiar; CDL, Winches, Locking Diffs, HD components: bumpers, skid plates, rock sliders, roof rack (the "real" kind), etc., tires, suspension-springs, shocks, spacers, bumpstops, etc., steering components, RTE, SG, EE, Dweb, LRO, ARB, TJM, etc. etc.

I took off the wheels on the Merc because the tires are worn out already and they cost like $325 each.

Keptin thanks for the sites and I'll dig in to them to get some "wisdom"and"wits" :buttrock:

Got a question though. by adding 2" lift, would it be enough to get good front clearance without taking off the front bumper?

im sure its fine....ive got a 3" lift and I 'trimmed' the edges of my bumper because; A. The hella lights were broken and now dead weight, and B. It would give me more clearance then I already had. But I have done so many things in my rover without the modified bumper its crazy.

Check out my link/s below and some of the videos on page 4 on cardomain (might have to go to www.kep1.com/images to bypass broken vid links).

All that stuff I did was without a modified bumper......you will be fine.

Nice rides! RoverX Is pretty extreme :D I've seen his Rig and from the looks of your sweet Mercedes you may not want the RoverX pinstripes :confused

I'd love to hit some trails with RoverX! He knows what he is talking about. You'll find a lot of Rover nuts on this board that could help you out with everything you need to know... And we're all pretty nice about it ;)

Hey buddy, you weren't complaining about that "loner" sheep I gave you during the last trimester. I seem to recall it kept a smile on your face and your wife slept better... ;)

OR ME... Don't worry though it'll come off in the process HEH :buttrock:
however if you prefer to trim it without the use of a rock talk in detail to Keptin his is very well done, and he likes to talk ..er type.. yea

yeah I can see not just RoverX but most of all of you guys are loco :D ]

I see that I can trim a bit of the lower part without changing the look just like Keptin's...his rig's bumper looks pretty neat.

Anyway I just got back from vegas (and blew some amount) and left me with one question.

is there any speed limit set by Land Rover on DII?

hehe, yeh, if you ever need anything just ask....im "on call" on weekdays from 3pm-12am, and on weekends nearly 24/2. Yes, I love to talk, I will talk you brains out ( :madnoel: ). Im an ex-MMORPG player so comm. though typing is that much more fun.

If you are ever interested in 'trimming' your bumper I can give you the low down on it. It only took me around 2 hours with few tools (to remove the lights) and a die grinder (while sharing the air with another die grinder....made it slow). I didnt know anything about what I was doing, but it turned out pretty good. It makes the tires look bigger too ;)
