I have a noise driving me crazy.
MY 2003 Disc 2 HSE is making a squeaky whirling like noise when in motion.
not a grinding or metal sound
not a hissing sound
The noise begins after the first few miles from a cold start.
after that it is constant
It does not make the sound when the engine is idling or reeving
it starts from approx 10 mph and up
it does not appear to get louder based on speed
it is there in drive, 3, 2, 1 and in "N" when rolling
it appears to be coming from the front end?
based on me hanging my head out the window like a dog while a friend is driving
(yes, it has obsessed me)
i have removed all 4 tires and inspected for debris - no debris
brake pads are at 75%
calipers good
no brake burn smell
nothing wrapped on drive shafts
nothing on tires
brake shields not making contact
i greased all fittings
nothing appears loose
new belts

Any insight, ideas or suggestions would be great

Could be a few different things.
Possibly a wheel bearing starting to go bad?
Can you change the sound by cornering?
A bearing will sometimes change the sound it make with lateral load.

Redtruck12,
Thanks for the suggestion.
I will try this after work today.
I have never replaced the wheel bearings in the time that I have owned the rig.
(10 years 129K miles)
Would you suggest?
and what would you/anyone suggest would be a good type?

the noise does not change when cornering.
It still begins after the first several miles from a cold start
and form 10 mph and up

very frustrating

Does the sound change when you swerve left and right while driving in a straight line like warming up your tires NASCAR style?

thanks for the suggestions
the noise doesn't change when swerving left or right while driving straight
the oil level in the front diff and transfer case is good
i have noticed that the noise seems to happen when coasting more than excelerating
i haven't had a chance to replace the wheel bearings.
any advice on what brand of bearings and where to get them?

I dont know where you can get them in your area but dont buy cheap chinese ones cos there are cases when they have 55 teeth instead 60 on the ABS reluctor ring then it mixes up the traction control without throwing a fault code and the vehicle becomes undriveable, this seems good enough for a decent price: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0748MPMRX/ref=psdc_15706731_t1_B074817FN2
