Took it out and soldered on new battery and still no works. The drivers seat switch controlled drivers mirror prior to removing. Is there any work around here you guys know of? Will to pay for working one but I guess they are unheard of. Don't really care about mirrors and seat memory and warmers have never worked....I guess I just want to adjust the seat for the poor guy behind me in a SWB.

Seat switch

Remove the seat switch cover and spray copious amounts of contact cleaner inside. Work the switch back and forth it might cure the problem. The switches themselves are quite robust and rarely fail.

Do not attempt to take the switch apart unless you are confident, lots of springs and ball bearings.

Mercedes cars from 1988 -1993 use the same switches. If you look at the side of the switch housing you will see the Mercedes mark.

Quite a few ECU's and seat switches come up on ebay uk much less than you would probably pay in the USA even with postage.

For awhile I was seeing rebuilt units BUT they did not control the mirror or have memory. The rebuilds were mostly from the UK and were between $300-500. Not cheap. I even saw a brand new ECU on eBay for about $1500 last week. That's insane. I also think there is a guy in Philadelphia offering rebuilt units in the same range as the units from the UK. I don't know if the rebuilt ECU's maintain the mirror and seat memory function.

Paul, Before I went on this mission we called you and found out you knew finding a good used one was impossible.
I am not sure about the functionality, I did read somewhere that when the battery is dead or almost dead then the seat controls begin to operate the drivers mirror. Strange as that sounds....I experienced it and was not surprised having owned Classics for 23 years. Thus I replaced battery with one bought from eBay in the UK hoping to solve my problem. The other functions were a reach on my part and I don't doubt your thoughts on what it actually does. Appreciate your posting.

I remember why I thought it stored memory...when you put the part #...PRC9864....in eBay it comes up with units that have seat memory and without. My seat control box has 2 buttons on it that I assumed are for memory....thus I figured I needed one with memory to sync correctly.

And one more thing the ecm controls....the gas door opener. Mine always took 3-7 button pushes to get it to engage. The next week after we pulled the ecm when I went to fill up I had to use a sawzall to get gas door open.

Only trucks with the two position seat memory had a seat ECU. It was only in the '93-'95 models. No two buttons on the seat switch, no ECU.

The Seat ECU does not, in any way, control the fuel filler door lock actuator. Your experience is merely coincidental. From the need to push the release button multiple times, it sounds like you had either a bad connection or a failing actuator.

As far as the fuel filler door it has a lock actuator just like the doors. It looks different but operates in a similar fashion. If the actuator goes bad it will either fail to unlock or fail to keep the door closed. When it breaks you need to reach it from the inside of the cargo area. In later models you'll have to remove the interior panel and the sub woofer. You'll see a panel held in place with six screws. Remove them and you'll see the actuator.

This is what the actuator looks like:

Wow way lot of info my 95 rrc aka christine memory worked
On my93rrc i wanna scream i cut old seat out thinking it was motors
.new seat in swap'd switch same thing mirrors move thinking disco
Manual seats in my future;)
For what it's worth, the only DI seats that will bolt up to a Classic are those found on '96 and later models. That is, unless you want to redesign the manner in which the seats are secured to the floor.

Installed and works great. Forgot how nice it was to adjust the mirrors and drivers seat.
