Evening all,

I'm turning 17 soon, and really want a Classic Range Rover, something that is not too mint, as it's going to undergo much modification.
Just wondering, insurance on a V8...?! :buttrock: is it possible?
I hear Classic V8s are Ins Group 14...not so bad

Hey Psychobiker... As we are the same age, I'm sure insurance rates are similiar so I can offer to compare with you. I'm turning 17 soon too, June 13th actually. Right now as I am 16, driving a 2002 V8 LR Disco SE II insurance is about 350.00 a month to have me on as a primary driver with my parents, but it is on Farmer's Insurance, which I've heard can be the most expensive.

You can definately check online for a free price quote but beware, you wan't more than just the bare minimum coverage incase you get into an accident which damn has almost happened so many times to me out here in Orange County. I don't know if its that or if its just that i'm 16, haha. Hope this helps. Oh by the way, great taste in cars...by choosing a LR. :)

At what age can you guys get a drivers licence?

Here in South Africa you can only get a licence at 18. You can only register a car in your name at 18! No insurance covers any person below 18.
Goeie More, Moeras.

I was born in Durban...yep, you gotta be 18. Here in Ireland, it's 17.
I think they take into account it being a 4x4...and hence the 4lt engine isn't that expensive to insure. ANyone know where I can find sexy, modified ones to plan?

Here in United States I think every state varies when you can get your license and where I live in California they are going to put a stop to the 16 year limit and make it 18! But luckily I'm passed that and already have my license @ 16. When you turn 15 you have to get your permit which requires you go to the Department Of Motor Vehicles, take a 40 question/40 point test on driving and rules. You can not miss more then 7 your first time I believe, and I only missed 2. So therefore I got my permit and could drive with a licensed driver over the age of 25. Once I got my license I can drive only myself 5am-midnight and i cant have people in the car under 22 years of age even though i break that rule all the time! haha. After 6 months of having my license I can drive people of any age, and the 5am-12 thing still applies but after having it one year it goes away and I can drive anytime, with anyone.
I'm in Ireland, which sound much like America. Not sure about home, Moeras...will ask my cousin.

I've booked my theory test for April 17th...Gaah!
I'll then be able to get my provisional (permit) and therefore drive :), registering/insuring the Rangie under my parents. They see 17 and V8 and laugh otherwise.
Does anyone know where I can find pictures/suppliers of tuning products (not Overfinch...) of RRs? I'm probably going to flush off the boot and rear doors, drop it and remove every sort of sound muffling in the thing!
Sound clips of a RR classic V8?

Here you can get a learners Licence at 17. also a theoretical test. Then you may drive a car with only one person in that must also have a full licence. You are not allowed on the free ways. But you can drive any time during day or night.

At 18 you go for the drivers test, which is both theoretical and practical.
Once you get your licence you must renew it every 5 years.

You may only own & register a car if you are over 18. Funny though the possesion of a valid licence is not required!
No insurance company will even look at you if you are below 18.

Insurance in SA is another thing! A LOT OF CROOKS, SKELMS, THIEVES and what else you want to call them.
1)They first of all look at your age 18 - 23 is one class then 23 - 30, then 30 +
2)Then at where you stay
3) then at being a male or female!
4) your driving history
5)They also consider the car that you drive, Double cab Pickups and BMW's being the most expensive (nothing on enjin size).

A Male between 18 - 23 pays the most by far!

My wife payed quite a high premium before we were married.
Then when we married and she moved in with me her payment dropped by 60%, even though she was only 24! on asking why I was told the following:
1) She is now married so It shows that she is settled
2) the area that we live in is a "low risk" area
3) That my driving history being good they now consider her a low risk, (despite the fact that she made 3 accidents in the last two years!

I got a scarily good quote last night, or as far as Ireland goes. E3380, about R21k, Moeras. Same here - Ma'll be with me in the Range. My first car being a v8...! yeah!
Has anyone pulled the silencers out of a Classic? What does the old V8 sound like?

L
The moral in Moeras's story is: Don't be the passenger when his wife's driving! :D
Lol, yes! Can't wait to get it! Any sound clips ANYWHERE?
Disco
You got it!! I refuse to be a passenger with her driving, She keeps calling me a Male Chavinistic Pig - I keep staying alive!
Moeras...moer is not a pretty thing ob Afrikaans, bru.
i drive a 94 disco and i pay 150 a month...nationwide...thats with collision + $1000 for brush gaurd and rack
how old are you? I've found a way round it by classing it as a goods vehicle...1/5th the price (but I lost back seats).
another thing that can make the price vary is, year of car... where you are located how much you owe .....
Now that $1000 you mentioned LRDisco94, is that an addition or is that a deposit or I dunno? :dunno:
I have full coverage!!! $100 month!!
