back in July I got a NRP muffler system and the thing ran great.
the other day I was driving home and my truck started sounding as it was a 4 banger..
I putted home, I checked it out and thought it was my fuel injection. today I noticed my catalytic converters glowing cherry red WHAT COULD THAT BE???

I have e-mailed British Atlantic for their take on the issue.

( excuse the spelling)

thank you,

Your cats lit up as they are supposed to whenever they get to much unburned fuel in the exhaust. Sounds like you need to check either your fuel system of electrial to see why the engine is running so bad.
As for the cats, you may have trashed them, hard to say until after you get the engine up and running better. Big indicator for a bad cat is a rattle at idle or when you hit it with a hammer.

I think disco mike nailed it ( fuel problem ) .

Unfortunatetly i think when the cat's glow red like that they are pretty much toasted.

That sucks, i know thay are not cheap.

Good luck joe

I had the same problem with my 93 RRC. I was cruising on the highway and the power gradually started dropping off until I needed full pedal to keep going 25 mph. I couldn't pull over because I was stuck in the middle lane on I495 with semis blowing past me on both sides at 70mph. Problem turned out to be the distributor locking bolt had come loose and the timing gradually got out of whack until it was just dumping loads of unburned fuel down the pipes. Everything from my manifolds down to the Y pipe was glowing bright red. It roasted the exhaust manifold gaskets but everything else was fine. Initially I thought the problem was a plugged cat but running the truck without the Y pipe confirmed that it wasn't.

Sorry Rudy, I guess I wasn't paying attention or else I'd have noticed your signiture says 96 Disco. (I've been awake since 1AM) 96 on have distributor-less ignition. They have 8 individual coil packs behind the intake plenum and a crank position sensor on the flywheel. I'm not too familiar with the Bosch injection system, but I know the lucas system on older engines has a "limp home mode" where the fuel mixture goes to full rich if there is a fault in the system.

Up Date:

Rovers North called me and asked me to check the o2 sensors.

I picked up a OBD2 Reader @ Auto Zone and got 3 codes
I don't know what they mean??

1) P1373 said, Ignition misfire OR Mfg Controll Ignition System Misfire.

2) P1371 said, Ignition misfire

3) P1316 said, Ignition misfire

so, does anyone know what this means and how to fix it?

Thanks All,
:) :) :) :)

Question?

first off I am not a trained mechanic ..

some of you have been reading the thread about my trouble's with my truck and I appreciate all of your replays.

Q: today I was checking out the coils packs, I was looking for spark. the 6&1, 4 & 7 did not give a spark why would this happen?

Q: could the plugs be bad and all go bad at the same time? I will remove them tomorrow and have a look.

Q:what size spark plug socket do I need?
