Pesky Coolant leak

Good morning. Last night I got back in town to see my disco is leaking coolant. Its lost a small amount from the left front just in front of the wheel. I've looked at the hoses and radiatior and can find nothing. The loss of coolant in the reservoir is minimal. Anyone had anything similar to this?:dunno:

Well, until you get under the hood and under the truck to see what is leaking, all we can do is guess.
Check it out and get back to us with more information.
I had an interesting one last year, same sort of thing, loosing coolant but couldnt see anything obvious. My reservoir had a lot of age crazing on it and it turns out that it was leaking through the crazing. I only found it after a long climb in hot weather towing my trailer. I stopped to let the engine cool (sooner than I would have liked but there were no pull overs on the way down) and opened the hood and I could see a tiny haze around the bottom of the reservoir where a fine mist of coolant was squirting out of the heaviest bit of crazing under pressure.
got home and replaced the tank and problem resolved.

That's the problem DM. I've looked under the hood and from underneath and can only see that's its a slow drip from a bushing on the suspension. The throttle body plate was replaced. Reservoir is new. Cap was new. Hoses are fine. Just can't find the source. And it isn't a constant issue either which makes no sense.
i was losing coolant but couldnt tell exactly where it was leaking. Per Disco Mikes advice I took it in for a coolant pressure check. Found the lead was coming from the timing cover gasket.
I'd suggest looking at the small hoses that run from the expansion tank to the throttle body housing and the one that runs to the top of the rad.

I had a similar issue and only found the leak once I had disconnected these hoses to find the rubber had perished but coolant loss was minimal.

The one that leads to and joins the radiator is hidden under the Fan plastic cowling and you need to remove this to get a proper look.

Time for a coolant pressure test.

Yeah, def check there. That hard plastic tubing gets really brittle. Also might explain the intermittentness of your problem too, having to do more with the reservoir piping.

Besides crawling around with a light and mirror, mike's right.. pressure test.

Oh I replaced those hoses a while back when I installed the new heater plate. I used heater hose, which I know is a controversy among some Rover owners. As I was replacing the collector gaskets I found the problem was actually the almost brand new upper radiator hose splitting almost dead center. I feel dumb now since I only focused around the radiator area.
Glad it's an easy fix, don't want a problem with your cooling system especially a rovers ! I'd do a once over of all the newer stuff you replaced, just in case others are corroding as well.
All the other hoses look great. Whole system was flushed soon after I purchased it due to the dexcool build-up throughout.
I need to replace my heater plate. What's wrong with using heater hoses? What's the controversy, and what's my alternative?
