OK, so please take it easy on me for asking this. I have read all the reviews and still have mixed feelings. Currently we are looking at purchasing either a 08 or 09 LR2. We love everything about the car, but are leery about the reliability. So, I come to you, owners of these vehicles to ask for your honest opinions. Do you regret buying it, would you suggest that looking at a different vehicle? Your help and honest opinions would be great! Thank you!

We had some issues on 08 that wasn't that bad. The occasional loss of fuel guage but fixed under warrantee. And it was very infrequent. I saw it happen twice and no one else has seen it happen. Its that rare. But no mostly a good vehicle.

if you buy a 09 you don't get maintenance. Ironically the equivalent in the Volvo world you get 5 year 60k warrantee and service. but I haven't driven a xc 60 so I can't tell you how different they are.

I have a 08 hse that i bought with 4700 miles it was a dealer loaner vehicle, got full-new car warranty and just love it! only issue in past 13 months is adaptive headlight indicator which was fixed under warranty, can't find anything else wrong with it. I'd buy another in a second! I live in NY and drove it up to Vermont skiing many, many times last winter w/o problems. just did aftermarket rear camera, it's great to park now.

I have owned my 2008 LR2 for about 4 years now. I love the car, as it wasn't so expensive I hesitate taking it off road. Quite to the contrary. I live in Utah and have done multiple back country trips down in Moab and Zions National Park without issue. We also drive up to Spokane once or twice per year 2 visit the wife's family. I have not yet had an issue while on a trip.

However, in the interest of full disclosure, I have had some issues come up.
- Power steering issues. I have had 3 power steering pump replacements. I paid for the first, and the rest were covered by the dealership warranty on the first replacement. Even after the change I had persistent pump whine, and was told by the dealership I would need to replace the rack, as it most likely got debris in it when the first pump failed. The rack is about $2800, so I started researching other possible causes of persistent pump whine. It ended up being a clogged filter in the reservoir causing the pump to starve, Used some CRC carb cleaner and a toothbrush and have not had any pump whine since. Going on about 4k miles since then. You can replace the entire filter/resevoir for about $40 bucks pretty easily if you wanted to though.

- Brake failure. Sprung a leak i n the brake line on the front driver side. I had the dealer do the repair, but only because it was winter and I don't have a garage. Replaced the other 3 lines myself in the spring for under $50 bucks and 2 hours time.

-Lean Engine CEL's: I am still troubleshooting this one. I have had persistent P0171 and P0174 codes for a few months now. Car runs fine, but I have to get it fixed for emissions next month. So far I am about $700 in at the dealer, and still no remedy.

All of that aside, I love the car. Super comfortable on road trips! I have driven an XC90 and X5, and they felt more like cars to me. The LR2 with its high seating position felt like an SUV. It has been perfect for a wife who had never driven in the snow before.
