Hi People

I am considering changing my series 88" 1970 SIIA Diesel for an early 200tdi disco.

I am looking for one as cheap as poss up to £1500 I am not bothered about the look of the body as long as its solid in all the important places and the chassis is fine and its mechanically good.

I would like to know what things I should be looking out for that may cost me money in the near future, ie, what are the chassis like on early discos are any needing welding yet? All your info would be gratefully received.

Any one looking for a landy like mine or want to px? Its mechanically great chassis is solid has obviously been welded a number of times, bulk head is solid panels all bashed about but looks mean!!! Saying 23,000 miles genuine? no idea doubt it.

Just traded in my 1973 Series III for a 94 V8 Disco with auto box, but did consider a diesel, just discovered the V8 in a local garage at the right time and at the right price.

From what I learnt whilst looking, the gearbox is the weak point on TDI's be wary if it hasn't been rebuilt/replaced after 70,000 miles. Replacement could cost about a £1000!

No known major problems with autos, the ZF box has a good reputation.

Rot in the inner wings is an issue but easy to detect as well as the usual problems such as rear crossmember, sills and general aluminium/steel corrosion. Check this out for more info:
