After falling in love with my friend's Disco a few months ago, I am now hoping to buy one next year for the purpose of towing a horse trailer but I am unsure of what spec, engine size, model etc etc will be best for the job. I'll also be using it for everyday driving too.

I have been strongly recommended (by my friend) that I go for the same make as hers - a 300 TDi, automatic which is a P reg (I think).

The trailer I will be towing has a max gross weight of 2,584kg (unladen 1,000kg) and I can probably only be able to afford one around N/P reg and a few years newer.

I am sorry if this seems like such a trivial thing to ask!!

Towing

According to the owners manual for a 2002 disco ii, with the 4.0L V8 the max towing in low range with 450 lbs load in the vehicle is 7700 lbs (3500 kgs). In High range the max towing is 5500 lbs (2500 kgs). I don't know if this is the same or not for the 300 tdi. If you have the self leveling suspension you can carry more in the vehicle but the max towing stays the same. I haven't towed much with my disco, but there is the information from the manual.
