So, I just bought two "refurbished" key fobs from ebay with blank key blades. The more I read, the more I'm realizing they might be useless. The dealer tried(?) and said they cannot be reprogrammed. My question is this, is having a working key in close proximity to an "ebay key" enough to fool the immobilizer? As in, if I get the ebay keys cut and have my working key in the ash tray, will the car start? Or is it an electronic connection in the ignition assembly? Thought it might be a good work-around if the former is possible.

You can try but I think you are unlikely to fool the immobilizer - I think the proximity for the RFID is not much beyond the ignition switch ring...it's about the same range as recharging your electric toothbrush I think...
