Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and proud to say I finally own a land rover. I recently bought my self a range rover classic 1979 2 door version. It was in terrible shape and I'm currently doing a restoration on it.

My question to you all is, can I swap the interior of a 1993 range rover classic 4 door version to my 2 door version. And by this I mean the dashboard, center console, door trims front left and right and the seats. Has anyone done this or would anyone have an idea on this?

Thanking in advance,

Cheers.

If you look at my thread regarding my Ute Project you will see the 93 dash fitted to a 76 2 Door.

But to answer your questions.
You can fit the dash, but you lose the radio position as this is where the gear shift is on a 2 door. You just put the radio in the 2 door position in the vent area on the door side of the steering column. You will need to change the heating unit and a lot of the wiring as well. Converting the wiring from a 93 to work in a 79 is no easy feat. It took me a long time.

Centre console is completely different area to mount it on and will not marry up due to the gear shift, high/low range levers, etc.
Can't use the door trims as a 2 door door is larger and has completely different door handles, locks, etc.

A 2 door has the seat belts built into the seat, 4 door seats do not. If you changed the seat belt set up, you can fit the seats in you change the seat bases (mounts) as well. This would mean finding pre 86 4 door seat bases and bolting them in to the same locations as the 2 door.

Yes, I have done this.

@P76rangie

Hi mate,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I guess I can get some of the parts in then, and might have to get the doors re trimmed to match the new seats and dash.

I also found this on the internet, and this guy seems to have done the entire job neatly. Have a look at it when you can, I was actually happy to see the pics. Radio in the right place, gear levers moved back etc etc.

That is a CSK. It was a limited edition brought out in the early 90's. It is not a converted 2 door, it is the way it was built in the factory. So the main difference with the console is that it has a 5 speed manual and a modern transfer case which will fit into the later consoles. If your gearbox is original (4 speed) the gearshift, etc, is in a completely difference place.

Just thinking out loud here but I wonder if a person could use a later RRC, loose the roof, doors, rear bodywork etc and graft the two door onto that?

You would be keeping the chassis, running gear, firewall, front windscreen and some of the floor pan and would get the better 3.9V8, factory wiring and interior etc but still retain the nicer looking two door body.

Yeah, lots of work I know but with affordable, restoreable two doors drying up it could be possible perhaps?

Thoughts?

Everything is the same mounting wise, etc. So it is basically just a body swap and some electricals.

You have to remember that Land Rover still produced 2 door rangies right through to the mid 90's and sold them in a number of European Countries.
