well the odyssey of the "free" D2 with a slipped sleeve that my son has been rebuilding is nearing its end.

After shipping the block to CA to get new top hats pressed in, rebuilding the motor (measuring and remeasuring with lots of plastigauge) and finally dropping it in (with a lot of trial and error on what went where -- lesson learned about documenting stuff).

We cranked the engine with the plugs out to get the oil pressure up, then put them back in and it turned over on the first crank. Did a 3x20 minute break-in at 2-3,000RPM, then have put about 100 miles on it so far with no issues.

OK, Not quite no issues.

We couldn't figure out how to mount one of the heat shields that is intended to protect the driver-side motor mount -- see pictures of the heat shield.

Similarly, we ended up with 2 bolts and sleeves/bushings that we could figure out where they went -- maybe they somehow hold the heat shield on :)

Any help would be appreciated.

The 2 pictured bolts and spacers look like the fasteners for the belt guard that is mounted top front of the motor, drivers side.

The heat shield attaches so that it is between the knock sensor and manifold, with it's orientation like the letter J rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise.

Congratulations on your success.
