I need to know if the following place on a series 2a can be used as a recovery point for a snatch strap or similar:

On the passenger side of the front of the chassis there is a bracket where the steering damper attaches, and it has quite a large hole where a D shackle looks like it will fit. But is it strong enough as a recovery point?

Hi Kevin normaly LRs have the recovery point bolted to the top of the chassis by the 4 bolts that hold the bumper/bullbar in place ,If you think of the amount of energy it will take to move a 2t landy that is bogged down to the axles the damper will probably part company with youre Landy.
I think the best thing to do is look around at a few "dead" Landies and find one with the propper recovery point on it and put it on youre Landy

Rob Leimer have them for just over R100.

You can also make our own, Take a (Large) D bolt, Find a normal bolt that would go through the holes and fit the thread.
Machine two pices of angle iron so that you can bolt them to the front of you bumper with the D bolt in between.

Secure D bolt with locking nut
