My ignition switch is acting up. Sometimes, it sticks in the start position. Just yesterday, I had turned the car off, removed the key, and removed myself from the truck. About 4 seconds later, the 'your key is in the ignition, you idiot' sound starting. But, alas, the key was in my hand. I had to put it back in the ignition, start the car, and turn it off- before the dinging would cease.

Is a new unit required? What are my options?

Thanks.

Sounds like two problems which 'may' be related.

"Sticks in start position" means switch stays with position running starter motor ? Maybe lubrication would help.

"Key in ingnition" sound. Mine does that, I know when I have key. I ignore as not worth fixing.

You could put in new switch but I would try a "quick" shot of teflon spray lubricant. Partially insert key to open. "Quick" as in "I only want to get mechanical, not eletrical porition. Maybe graphite is the correct lub but don't do both.

Worst case you screw up switch and it needs replacement.
