G'day, I own a s3 swb 73 landy,
I only have the old 2.25 pet in her, wich I love, but i'd like to chuck an auto box in behind it,.. has anyone here done this b4? or know what would fit/work well and hopefully not cost too much?

Thnx in advance for any help

Hi there.

2 things to look at:

1) You are going to go from slow to very slow when putting a aito box in! The 2,25 enjin gives a little over 50 kw in standerd form. A Auto box takes of more power than a normal box, so you will end up with less power on your wheels than currently.

2) I dont know of any auto box that will fit. However I know of a guy that did a complete convesion. Chev 4.1L 6 cyl enjin, Auto box And then a separate transfer box form a Toyota 4X4. It was not a sucsesfull conversion at all, heavy on fuel, low on offroad performance. (this guy lost use of his left leg so he had to find an alternative to a manual box. Later bought a Disco V8 auto).

Yep thanks, speed isnt really a issue for me, as it is, it is reving the guts out in 4th gear, so an auto would have a similar top speed i would think,..
and in the bush I Take it Fairly slow, partly thats why I went for the original 4cylce in place of the Holden 6 converts you see so often here in Aus,

I'm hopeing a R-rover Auto might be easily addapted, as it never will be takeing much grunt, it does not have to be the best box in the world, just so long as she works, and fits up,

has anyone seen something like this done?
or know some where u can get a good convert plate
