The speedo and odometer up and quit working on my 96 disco and now when I am rolling at slow speed 7-8 mph the rpms will drop all the way down and the engine will die. It can be restarted and will idle just fine and drives fine except for when what I mentioned. I think is the speed sensor but I wanted to see if there is a possible fuse or another cause that I need to check before ordering the sensor. THe Disco has 136,XXX miles on it and this is the oem sensor.

96 speedometer/odometer

It is probably the speed transducer. It costs about $100.00. I just changed mine. Sounds like all the right symptoms.

Your Alternator has nothing to do with it. If you want another opinion, call you local Independant Land Rover shop. Look on lrx.com for some local mechanics. I have talked the the one closest to me, they were excelent and resonably priced. I would go to them again.
