Every afternoon, while on the way home from work, usually while traveling up a decent incline, I get a "Low Coolant Level" notice in the info screen. No chime sounds, not noise, but just the notice. It usually also then tells me the same thing when I turn off the car. I then check the level (Hot), and it is 2-3" above the cold full upper line.

I don't think I have ever gotten the message while driving to work in the morning.

I've been getting this message off and on for 4-5 months.

About 4 weeks ago, I noticed the level, when cold, was just above the bottom cold full line. So I purchased the correct coolant, and added some to raise it to the upper line.

I have heat, I don't overheat (temp gauge hasn't been noticeably different), but there is a faint smell of coolant when you open the hood. I have been religiously checking the level for these past 4 weeks, and it has barely changed. I assume from the smell that I have a leak somewhere, but it must be tiny. I haven't found any puddles of coolant anywhere.

I will be pulling the engine cover off and checking the thermostat housing area for leaks. Anywhere else I should be looking?

And why does the "Low Coolant" message pop up when I am not low on coolant?

I have run into this issue myself.
It will most likely be the sensor in the coolant recovery tank. When they begin to fail they like to send send erroneous messages. A faint coolant smell on a hot engine is nothing to worry about if the level is ok and there is no evidence of coolant where it is not supposed to be. The recovery tank is pressurized and will vent a little air when hot.

Bad news is that the sensor is not available without a complete new recovery tank!
Good news is that it is fairly cheap and easy to replace.

Hope that helps.

I have the same problem when I took to my mechanic he told me I needed a new coolant overflow tank, he also said the coolant isn't low but the sensor will show low because of the bad tank. I found a new one on ebay for $76 hope this helps

I had the same warning and finally it showed up in an obvious way. It was the $10 plastic "T" in the system that gets hot and cold and cracks. No puddles but I could smell it as it dripped onto the hot engine. It finally let go while I was stopped and steam came from under the hood. Total cost was $36 from an independent rover shop.

I think it may be the coolant tank, as I keep finding an orange residue on the top of the tank near the bleed screw. It is definitely losing coolant somewhere, but I can't find it.

What T? The bleed screw on top of the engine? I can't find a leak there either, but will keep an eye on it.

Right now my more pressing issue is that my suspension keeps faulting. I'm pretty sure it is either the front valve stuck, or the front passenger position sensor being messed up.

Received the new tank last night. They redesigned the thing. Looks quite different.

Now for a warm day to actually do the work.
