Hi
I'm the owner of a 1995 3.9v8 auto Discovery. (LPG conversion)
Had this strange rattle for a while and it may be getting worse.
You cant hear anything for about a mile or so and then it will start to rattle.
And then only when pulling, if driving slowly or down hill with little or no power there’s no noise. Also revving when parked up there’s nothing.
Just come back from my local garage, and its foxed them too. They thought it may be one of the cats but now it would seem it was not that. Has been tested and all ok.
Help any ideas please!!! :dunno:

hi there.thanks for your post.we have had the exhaust checked all okay.we have poked and prodded all over whilst up on ramps.cant find anything loose.the strange thing is the noise is only there when when disco is warmed up after a mile or so.and then only when accelerating or pulling hard.the noise is almost a clacking sound which made me think it was the exhaust at first.any light you can throw on this would be gratefully received. :confused

Hi.
Just want to update this thread and thank the group and everyone one who replied to my message.
After being told it was the transmission or the flywheel or on of a hundred other things by various garages that didn’t quite add up to me, I completely ignored their advice and gambled on what the forum posts advised. After all how could it be a transmission or the flywheel problem when it only did it after warm up and when pulling?

So the outcome is that I had the cats removed today. And as if by magic no strange rattle. Problem all gone!
And because it’s LPG it still passes the UK emissions test for MOT.

Thank you so much everyone for helping me out. I saved lots of money and hassle.

:drive:
THANKS YOU ALL!!!
