We are talking about a 98 Land Rover Disco. The old girl runs fine. Problem I am having is the idle. One minute it idles fine, another it dies.

On occasion it may idle high... a little tap of the pedal may correct the problem of cause the idle to drop to zero.

Mostly, I have to keep a little pressure on the pedal to maintain idle when stopped. I dont have any MILs or pending codes.

I have tried adjusting the linkage... when I do, it idles too fast... same process over again.

Any ideas?

On the '98, is the idle speed controlled by the EMS? I suspect it is. On my
'96, I had problems with the throttle position sensor. It was as if at times the
accelerator pedal was not attached to anything! The sensor turned out to be
just fine. The connector was becoming intermittant. I cleaned everything with
brake cleaner and WD-40. After mess-clean-up I then applied electrical
connector grease and haven't had problems since. YMMV

On ANY British vehicle, I have found that a good cleaning of the electrical
connectors is a good first place to start when problems arise.
