I decided to just go for it and tow my 2004 DII flat despite the many posts that say not to do it.
Installed a generic tow bar from Northern Tool on to my ARB winch bumper.
Key ON to unlock steering.
Transfer case in NEUTRAL.
Transmission in PARK.
Travelled over 3000 miles with no issues.
Definitely check and preferably change your transfer case fluid.
Front & rear diffs, tranny, transfer case, and engine all had fluids changed prior to trip.
