hmm...when was the last time fluids were changed? On my previous car, it would KICK, not glide, but KICK into 2cnd and after draining the trans oil and replacing it with the right spec oil the kick went away. Just something to consider, could be something small or could be something worse so let's wait for others to share their thoughts.

good day,

got a question about my 95 Disco. After it warms up and u put it in reverse it will make a thump after it goes in. what could be the problem? any ideas Let me know

Thanks Eric
Conventional wisdom is the splines but I personally don't know about it.

Is the thump the same when cold vs. warmed up? Does the thump vary after a drive? If so, then you could a fluid situation. Try a tranny filter cleaning, fluid change, and a tea leaf reading.

I have a 96 D1, so when I forget to put the tranny in 3rd, and do my return home in the AM, I get the big thump thanks to the D. I hate it when you are slowing down for a turn after making good time on the empty streets of New York (thats between 4 am to 6.15am local then it becomes loco).

Other than a typical overloaded Ford F-350 ambulance, it is the same for my D1 and I am a religious zealot regarding fluid changes.

Its brake "clatter." Brake manuf. make things called clatter clips and they should get rid of the "clump" when you put into reverse. Had them put on the last time I had my brakes done...worked perfectly.
