toddco makes a kit to swap the box in from a CDL transfer case into a non CDL case.has anyone ever done this? their store is very close to me.i have a 2002 discovery 2 with a non CDL case. I haven't even taken it offroad yet so im a little apprehensive as to how well it will do offroad.

You know that your just swapping in the front "output" portion of the transfer case right? Not a bad job at all.
As far as off-road capability, it depends on how crazy you want to get. Bone stock with some A/T tires, you will be amazed at the capabilities of these trucks. The CDL option just adds to this capability by taking out the "interference" of the computers. It's by no means a necessity if your sticking to the mild to mild/moderate trails.

I'd just swap in a good used locking LT230.

That being said the traction control is great in the DII and you can do quite a bit without a CDL.

In the end I would install a CDL case though :D
