Curious if anyone has a solution for this.

Running an 04' Disco 2 with automatic transmission, I find when climbing aggressive ledges that get the nose of the vehicle up over 50 to 60 degrees, trans fluid starts leaking out the breather/overflow valve on the top of the transmission. As a footnote, trans fluid is right where it should be and not overfull.

I'd like to stop this from happening for obvious reasons. Anyone have an idea of what that connection looks like on the top of the trans? I can likely fab up a breather but I'm not entirely clear what this thing looks like. Is it a simple breather like one sees on the diffs or transfer case, and if so, would there not have been a factory breather line on it already?

Also, an idea where exactly the breather is located. I've had a tough time finding it. The Workshop manual speaks of it but does not give a vry good indication of where it is exactly.

Where exactly is the fluid leaking from, the breather tube or the tranny case?

The best i can tell its coming from the breather hole on the case tiself, although I haven't been able to get my hand up there to verify if there is even a breather attached anymore. Its definitely running down off the top of the trans case though.

If there's a factory breahter connected, where would it normally run to?

Both the trans, and transfer case have breathers. both run along the transmission, and up into the engine bay, then curve back down (see two plastic horseshoe lines at the back of the passenger head on the fire wall). transmission breather line runs back down the wall towards the transmission. the t-case, is supposed to u-turn in the bay and stop. if either the trans or t-case has been pulled out, most likely the lines have been cut.

And yes... you can do your own fix, and run them to where you want.

Thanks for the feedback. I would guess that the line must have been broken or come unattached some how. I'm quite certain the trans has never been pulled though. I'll have to try and get in there and confirm where the line is broken.

If its still attached right at the trans itself I will likely just disconnect that line and re-run another breather.
