I have a 02 Freelander (V6) that has recently started to smoke on start up (oil). Does this engine have a PCV valve or filter that should be changed at specific intervals? If it sits for a few days it does not smoke - so I am thinking it is either a PCV issue or possibly a valve guide/seal issue. Recently we have replaced 1 injector and resealed the rest and the timing belts have been replaced - other than that just normal maintenance, runs great.

It could be that your engine could be experiencing a common issue with freelanders. have you checked your air system for oil.
