99 Disco Series 1 water pump is making a grinding noise and it just so happened to start after I went to the car wash and sprayed some oil off the water pump and power steering hoses. The pulley connected to the fan blade is a little loose. I can tell the shaft is off center and loose.

My question is whether I can drive it 2 miles home or is it too risky?

Could the water pump shaft or fan seperate and cause more damage?

Can I drive it and just make sure the water temp doesn't get too high. I have already ordered a new water pump and plan to replace it as soon as I can get it home.

It was the water pump. I could see some aluminum metal shavings just behind the shaft.

Thanks, I got it home and when I pulled the old water pump offl it was showing some scrap marks from the propeller off center.
