Hi guys,
I was draining my oil out of the 91 RRC engine. While I was waiting for the last couple of drips to drain from the sump I noticed this little plastic part sticking out of the sump drain hole! I grabbed it with some long-nosed pliars......but.....what the hell is it? :dunno:

Engine seems to run normally, I have done 200Kms since the oil change with no problems! :drive:
I have flipped through the manual & cant find anything that looks like this??
I thought some of you who have stripped down RRC 3.9 engine may recognize it???
It is 3 1/2" long (but appears to have snapped off something longer) & 1/2" in diameter.

Anyone have any clues???

cheers,
Andy

Whether it is the pick up tube or not, NOW is the time to drop the oil pan to investigate before anything else goes wrong. It is not wise to continue driving your truck until you are certain where that part came from. If it is the oil suction pipe it's only a $25 dollar part. A full rebuild thanks to low or no oil pressure is a lot more expensive. Oh, and when you reinstall the pan don't use the silly cork gasket, go to your local parts store and buy The Right Stuff gasket maker. No more leaking or weeping around the edges.

Nothing to worry about. It is the shield over the low oil level sensor which mounts through the right side of your oilpan. As long as the bung where it goes into the pan is not leaking all is OK. I haven't seen very many of the old 3.9 and 4.2 fitted with these trhat still worked.
It is well below the crank, and it's all plastic so I wouldn't be real hung up on what might happen. from your picture, it looks like the whole tube, so there won't be much of anything else in there.

Thanks.......

Hello again,

Thanks for all the feedback.
I couldn't believe that they would make a Oil pickup in this weak plastic design & the oil pressure seems fine!

So I was glad to hear from Terry that its just part of the sump oil level sensor.
No leaks from the sump, so I will just push it to the back of my mind & not worry!

Thanks again,
Andy
