I just spent countless hours thinking and trying to find out why I had low oil pressure on start up. I pulled the oil pan and checked the pick up strainer and put it back together with another Fram XG oil filter from the same shelf (the first had 2700 miles on it and the 2nd had less than 100 miles on it). I had read about them failing before so I decided to change to a K&N oil filter and Voila! problem solved! Thank goodness I didn't remove the timing cover to check the pump yet. This thing could have cost me my engine if I weren't paying attention.
