OK, I found the problem with my window. I ordered the new regulator from the UK (a third of the price quoted here in Tasmania),I got the old one out and swapped the motor. For the life of me I cannot get the new one in. Does anyone have any tips, trick? It's driving me nuts. I have the window taped to the top of the frame, tried countless variations. Please someone put me out of my misery, before I start kicking the thing! Thanks in advance.

Fitting

Hi Taz,

I used to watch these things being fitted when I worked at the factory, but I've sort of forgot how they did it. Anyway, they got them in somehow. My advice would be to plug the motor in and move the regulator either fully up or fully down, one way or the other should allow the gegulator to fit into the door. Make sure the window is secure and won't drop down.

Regards Wes.

You can't get the regulator inside the door frame?

BTW, who did you order from and how much was it (if you don't mind me asking)?

Sorry, What Truck Is It? only thing i can think is that they packaged the wrong side. you know the part number? i've never had any real problems with them. just make sure the rail the window rides in is slid to the center so the regulator isn't as long. i usually tuck the latch side in first.

I tried all that. I can get the whole caboodle in the door fine, but despite ,moving the motor and quadrant to both extremes I can't seem to get the main bar up to the window. I' thought about this last night, and will try and fit the reg and then add the motor. The trouble with this method is the screws that hold the motor are accessed from the "wrong side". I'll let you all know how I get on.

John I can get the whole shebang in the door OK, but can't get the main bar up to the window. I have tried everything, with the motor at both extremes. Going to try and fit the motor last today. I was quoted $287.00 for th part from the local LR dealer I had Craddocks from the UK FED Ex to me for less than $100.00. Craddocks always seem to get me out of a fix. That's a huge difference.

Window De regulators

OK....I have finally found out what the problem is. The Quadrant on the regulator has been welded on backwards. At first I thought, perhaps it's for the driver side, but when I stripped them down and placed them side by side I saw the problem. I guess that it could fit in the jig either way when being built. So back to the drawing board....At least I am not quite as mad as I thought I was. (9 hours later and a couple of kick marks in the door). I actually feel bad for shouting at my Disco. Thanks to you all for advice anyway.

Beware of false regulators

Here is a picture of the problem. The top one is the failed regulator, and the bottom one is the replacement. Note cog welded upside down. I am sure that the manufacturer had the jig set wrong here. I'll keep everyone posted with the outcome.

Solution

I called the part supplier, and it looks like the wrong part was sent. However I want to stress that it was the part manufacturer that was at fault, a wrongly labeled part. Craddocks in the UK sent me another free of charge and were amazingly helpful. The new one was fitted in 18 mins flat, from stripping the door down to driving away again. So thanks Toni at Craddocks for sorting this out. Problem solved...
