Hi everyone!

I recently purchased a 2001 Discovery Series II SE7. We have three small children, and prefer to drive for vacation travel. With that, we decided to purchase Headrest DVD displays.

All has gone well, and the headrests are installed. The driver's headrest required me to remove the handholds beside the headrest, as the new 7" display required 9" headrest, making it a little over an inch too wide. That's no big deal though, as I'll most likely modify the hand holds so they can be put back in place.

Most importantly, I am kind of at a loss as to where I should plug these things into. They are drawing about an amp each, so at 12v (confirmed they run at 12v) that should mean about 12W. I can't imagine 36W is very much for a source to "piggy back" off.

I already found a juicy ground hub behind the rear passenger's ash tray in the center panel.

Any ideas though?

Also, I really appreciate the thread on the "3 amigos". Those nasty dudes popped up 2 days ago, and I'm going to start following the steps to put them in their place ;)

Thanks!

I may be in luck!

Hi again!

I may have run into some luck. It appears there is a multi-CD changer below the front passenger's seat. We are not using it, and the thing is already wired.

I may end up just disconnecting it, and using the power line for the DVD players. That is of course, after insuring the CD player isn't being supplied anything other than 12V, by a hidden power inverter . If that's the case, it will more than likely be in the same location as the player itself.

Seems this will be a Sunday project, as it's my daughter's Birthday tomorrow.

I'll be sure to post LOTS of pics on my progress.

Project finished!

Hi again!

Well the project is finished, and boy does it look great!

The power source became a non-issue once I discovered (no pun intended ) the cargo area cigarette plug adapter.

1] I removed the adapter, and disconnected it.

2] I then removed the contacts from the connectors for the cigarette rear plug-ins.

3] Once that was done, I soldered a new positive, negative, and ground 18 gauge wire to each appropriate contact.

4] I reconnected the contacts to their connectors.

5] Plugged the connectors into the rear cigarette plug-ins.

And there was my power!

Simply put, the install was fairly easy, with the exception of the driver's seat. Darn you leather seats! ;)

I would highly recommend this addition to anyone who does a lot of traveling with children.

Sorry for the delay everyone,

I've been pretty busy as of late, but here are the pictures.

Here's the finished product. If you look in the lowest part of the image with the DVD screen, you will see the power and ground wires. These are being supplied by the available cigarette socket pictured in the third image.

The headrests are very nice, and appear to be of good quality. I foresee these headrests lasting quite some time.

The mess is all hidden beneath the driver's side passenger seat. I simply ran a strip of electrical tape across the bottom of the cavity. I then taped each fuse box to the base strip individually, with the superior box overlapping the inferior's strip, so as to provide superior adherence.

I noticed a slight high pitch in the audio while running the DVD players in Input mode (so we need only one DVD for all three displays). This was solved by relocating the excess power line (in picture 4). I also placed a circular magnet around the wires, which removed the EM field being generated from the coiled power wires.

All in all, the install was quick and somewhat painless (my index finger is almost healed from that darn driver's seat). I would HIGHLY recommend this project to even a novice car AV installer, seeing as I am one, and I did it ;).
