Your answer is yes and no. (It's a 109 right?)
Yes the top is easily removable, but it gets you nothing but a stupid looking derelict to drive. Unless you are lucky to have a five door built in one of the two years they made the rear passenger doors with removable tops. So--- you can remove the top, remove the door tops from the front doors, might be LUCKY enough to remove the door tops from the rear doors (not likely) and now you are stuck with the door post between front and rear door. I have considered making an arch to bolt to the top of it to make it "look" right, sort of like a radar arch on a boat. To remove the top, you first had to remove the back door, now you install the tailgate and latches you bought for the job.
It has been done, but is a lot of work. One fellow cut his "B" post and put a joint in it so he could re-assemble it later and also made a second set of rear doors that he cut down to match the front doors.
