CB Antenna Mount

A friend gave me a General Lee CB he doesn't use anymore :D I want to get a whip type antenna I think but not sure where I could mount it on the LR3. Anybody have one mounted I could see or any good ideas?

It needs to fit into my pretty low-roofed garage (& not tangle into the door opener thing), so I don't know if the roof would be an option. Not too thrilled with the idea of drilling holes and want it somewhere it won't look dorky. (Wish I had a rear tire mount ;) )

Since you got the CB cheap, look on eBay for a short Firestick antenna.

I had mine mounted on the top bar of my arb front bumper, great in & out signal.

The whip ones are a nightmare to control to not get your own truck marked up, or other nearby items.

Oh okay good to know that! I had read that the whips don't break as easy, but they neglected to mention they actually whip everything within reach. I rather have a broken antenna if that's the case.

My bumper's still just stock fiberglass. There just doesn't seem to be any good place to mount it on this truck. Maybe I'll need to wait until I've got some more gear added...but that's gonna be awhile.

Okay cool. I always thought (don't know why) the antenna had to be touching metal. If that's not the case then rear bumper it is (for now :D) Thanks!

You can get the short (12" or 18") flexible roof-mount antennas. They have a magnetic base so you can take it off when not needed. Decent range under good conditions, but they're not like a good antenna. There are also window mount CB antennas (like the old cell phone antenna). The range isn't as good with those, but if you are in a convoy or just on the trails in a group it shouldn't matter that much.

Just a couple of more options for you...

I had a mount fabricated by Outback Offroad. It's pretty cool. However, I have to tie off the antenna (48" firestik) to my roof access ladder to prevent it whipping around.
I Like that a lot. I also like the Land Rover emblem you put on the back - good idea!

The magnetic roof mount might be a good short term solution until I can do it up proper.

I do like NWoods truck and idea very much!
I've run into some signal strangth issues with it mounted at the back.

CB antennae require a flat plane around them (I read this somewhere by someone smarter than me) the hood is excellent.

I'd fab an S or Z if you rather bracket like Nathan (nwoods) and mount it so it passes through the gap between the hood and front quarter panel. i.e. attach it to something under the hood the vertical portion will pass from engine bay to outside then back to horizontal to hold the antenna.

I'll try to find a photo, or maybe someone else had one handy, I know its a common solution, and the signal is much better.

I think I only had a 36" Firestick.

I like that Idea Thor. There is plenty of potential mounting points on the drivers side inner fender, but no real way to get it out beyond the hood. The hood itself is sealed, and the gap in the sheet metal is quite small. I think the small magnetic roof mount antenna may offer the best radio range
