re: U.S. version 2006 LR3

The owner's manual makes it clear that daytime running lights are programmable (enabled/disabled) by "a Land Rover dealer". Does anyone know if this is true, i.e. that only a dealer can do it, or is there some way an owner can do it, without computer that is.

Faultmate will do it.

It is a computer activated option. About your only non dealer choice is the Faultmate MSV-2 plus it does so much more as well.

The other alternative is just to manually turn your low beam headlights on after you start up as that is what the DRL are - just the low beams plus tail lights always on. The main difference is that the dash display may be muted.

Below is a summary of the DRL options available, the Canadian system and the EU system.

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)

DRL use the full intensity low beam headlamps which are permanently illuminated
when the vehicle is being driven. DRL are used in a number of markets and there are two systems to cover these markets.

DRL CANADIAN MARKET
DRL for this market use full intensity low beam headlamps. The side marker lamps, tail lights, and license plate lamps will be on, but instrument cluster illumination will be off.

DRL are active when the following parameters are met:

a) Parking brake is off on vehicles with manual transmission, or PARK is not selected on vehicles with automatic transmission.

b) Ignition switch is in the ignition position (II).

c) The central junction box receives an engine running signal.

d) The lighting control switch is in the off, auto, or side lamps position.

NOTE:
If the lighting control switch is moved to the headlamp position, DRL are deactivated and normal side lamp and headlamp functionality is operational.

NOTE:
Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) (where fitted) is not available when the DRL are active.

NOTE:
When DRL are active, the headlamp flash function using the left hand steering column multifunction switch will operate normally. The high beam headlamp function using the left hand steering column multifunction switch will be deactivated.

When the parking brake is applied on manual transmission vehicles or the selector lever is in the PARK position on automatic transmission vehicles, DRL are turned off. This is to reduce battery discharge during long periods of engine idling in cold climate conditions. When the parking brake is released or the selector lever is moved from the PARK position, normal DRL functionality is restored.

DRL DENMARK, HOLLAND, NORWAY, SWEDEN, FINLAND & POLAND
DRL for these markets use full intensity low beam headlamps. Side lamps and license plate lamps will be on, but instrument cluster illumination will be off.

DRL are active when the following parameters are met:

a) Ignition switch is in the ignition position (II).

b) The central junction box receives an engine running signal.

c) The lighting control switch is in the off position.

NOTE:
When DRL are active, the headlamp flash function using the left hand steering column multifunction switch will operate normally. The high beam headlamp function using the left hand steering column multifunction switch will be deactivated.

d) If the lighting control switch is moved to the side lamp or headlamp positions, DRL are deactivated and normal side lamp and headlamp functionality is operational.

Wow, thanks, very informative. I guess I'll just go to the dealer, which presumably will give me the Canadian system.

Just out of curiosity do you know off the top of your head how much Faultmate cost?

Full meal deal, about a thousand dollars.

The fully loaded, all software included version, (kit number SV222 for the MSV-2 Faultmate Extreme), would run about a thousand US dollars.

There are cheaper variations of it as well, (some just a code reader and canceller), but the two units, kit SV222 and SV122, emulate the dealer T4.

In the jpg below the Extreme unit is the longer one, the hardware part of the SV222 kit, and the short blue piece is the hardware part of the SV122 kit. The longer one has the window display, the shorter one, you have to tie to a laptop to have a readout. The longer one can also tie to a laptop, but it is not required - more portable take along sort of piece of kit.

I have a 2008 L322 I can turn DLR lights with light control it isn’t side light or low been there are extra bulbs in light cluster Which I changed to LED compliant with RR system But I think you can buy a plug in tool to change to automatic when ignition comes on Check Utube for this
