Oxygen Sensors - which is which?

2002 Disco...just pulled the errors from my rig and it shows O2 sensor #1 is bad. I know there are four total and it is either of the fronts. In the states, I was under the assumption this would be on the drivers side. But, this is not built in America, so is #1 on the passengers side (Euro drivers side)? #1 piston bank is on the passengers side. Does this follow the same rule for the O2 sensor? Any and all help is appreciated. Need to replace to pass smog.

Yeah sorry, right hand driver in England...not Euro. Just my assumption that all LR's in Europe were right hand driver. Error was in bank 1 for failing O2 sensor. Did not write down the numbers but knew my fuel mix was bad for smog check. Just passed last year and knew they would need replacement. I would love to change both, but sometime, in this economy, money is tight. Has 110,000 miles and I don't use high test fuel. I just want to get the failing one replaced to pass my smog, then when funds are more available, change the other. Thanks for verifying Bank 1 as left side from inside. Appreciated.

I did not write down the code number as a mechanic friend of mine has the computer to pull the errors. But he did say it was the bank 1 pre cat O2 sensor that needed to be replaced. I went ahead and bought the second pre catalyst sensor in hopes there will be no computer conflict for the smog check. Will put them in in the morning, do the drive schedule C thingy and get it smogged. Will remeber to write down all the codes from now on. Thanks...will keep tabs. Funny as the Rave CD does not tell which is which when it comes to banks.

Well, I replaced both pre catalyst O2 sensors, checked the computer for errors and drove it on the freeway/highway for about an hour before the smog test. Passed with flying colors! Nice! Thanks for all the help. Very much appreciated.

I have one additional question. What, if any difference would running high test fuel 91 do for smog vs. running low grade 87? Any thoughts on this?
